Sheridan County Commission
The Board of County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the Plan Update on February 4, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. in the Commissioners Board Road, 224 S. Main Street, Sheridan.
Sheridan County is updating its 2008 Comprehensive Plan.
Welcome to Sheridan County’s website dedicated to the Comprehensive Plan Update project. On behalf of the Board, I would encourage you to explore and immerse yourself in its content – and perhaps more importantly, let us know your thoughts, values and aspirations about the future of our great county. Sheridan County’s Comprehensive Plan will guide multiple public and private decisions in the years to come. This is your opportunity to be a part of it!”
Mike Nickel, Chairman, Board of County Commissioners
So, what is a comprehensive plan and how is it used?
The Sheridan County Comprehensive Plan is a guide used by the Board of County Commissioners, County Planning and Zoning Commission, and local government staff during the decision-making process when considering capital improvements, zone changes and other land use determinations. It is also a useful document for developers and property owners to review when considering development ideas, in this case for unincorporated Sheridan County. The comprehensive plan also describes the overall vision for the future land use of the area.
The Sheridan County Plan Update will identify county issues and the long range goals and actions that the local government will set out to achieve in the next ten to twenty years on behalf of community development, health, and economy. The goals and actions are accompanied by implementation strategies for the accomplishment of each action. The Update will provide the framework for making infrastructure decisions, standards and regulations related to achieving the goals, with zoning being the most well-known tool. So although it does not have regulatory power, the County Comprehensive Plan Update will reflect community values and the vision as expressed by the public.
